Ultra on the Cumbria Way

Leaving at 4:40 ish from my mums home, I didn’t see any aurora last night but really wasn’t in a great place to see it. I’ve seen photos that people have taken so hopefully I get to see them tonight.

It’s black, cloudy, warm on my road bike. Heading up to Haverthwaite, along to Greenodd and up the road. The sunrise has been pretty minimal, although pink its cloudy so the sun may not come out for a while.

6:45 on top of the fell, just ridden 25.9km so far, no idea when the first person is going to come through. Todays location is a bit bland but it’s definitely south lake district terrain. My itb’s need servicing!

All 21 have passed at 8:17, time to move to the next location.

8:59 heading to Langdale, in a landrover, the field is going quickly today, although there may still have been time to ride to the Langdales.

10:40 have arrived at the middle of stake pass, should just be able to get the angle I need. The poor road bike doesn’t like bracken or stones!

10:59 have moved further up to a better location.

I’ve just been talking with some americans who passed, as well as howard seal. She took a video of me riding and a photo while I was track standing, really nice to meet great people along the way in such a beautiful quiet place.

Left at midday, took about half an hour to get back to the road, on my way home now.

Back in Windermere, hopped on the train home, out of water and energy. Time to go home, shower and repack for tomorrows event.

I’ve ridden 68.4km today and you can find the photographs from the event on facebook.
